US cuts work permit validity from 5 years to 18 months, triggers anxiety among green card applicants - The Economic Times

The Trump administration has reduced the validity of work permits (EADs) for refugees, asylees, and certain immigrant groups -- including green card applicants -- from five years to 18 months, citing national security and fraud-prevention concerns. USCIS said shorter permits allow more frequent vetting to detect potential threats and deter fraud. A new specialized unit in Atlanta will also screen foreign nationals posing security risks.
