South Cotswolds MP calls for urgent climate and nature action

SOUTH Cotswolds' MP has called for urgent action on the climate and nature crisis, following a national emergency briefing.
Roz Savage attended the event in Westminster last week, where leading experts warned of severe risks to the UK's economy, food supply, public health and national resilience without swift measures.
More than 1,200 politicians, business leaders and civic representatives gathered to hear ten of the UK's foremost climate and nature scientists, economists and academics outline the scale of the threat and the consequences of continued delay.
They focused on rising geopolitical instability, extreme weather and the potential collapse of global systems necessary for life on Earth.
After the briefing, Ms Savage said: "Yesterday's event was a wake-up call for the Government.
"The evidence we heard was clear and deeply concerning.
"We are living through a national emergency, and people across the South Cotswolds deserve honest information about the risks we face and the choices before us.
"Our communities are resilient and strong, but they need clear, trusted guidance."
Ms Savage, alongside other MPs and peers, signed a cross-party letter addressed to the Prime Minister and broadcasting heads at the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, S4C, and Ofcom.
The letter calls for an urgent televised national emergency briefing for the public, and a comprehensive engagement campaign to counter widespread fossil-fuel-funded disinformation.
Part of the letter stated: "We were presented with the latest evidence showing that the United Kingdom must urgently prepare for a cascade of serious societal impacts.
"Now is the time for courage and to put trust in the public."
Ms Savage added: "The South Cotswolds is already seeing the impact of an increasingly unstable climate - from flood damage to nature loss to farmers in distress over weather-related crop losses.
