Social Justice Minister pays tribute to Ambedkar on his death anniversary

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) on Saturday (December 6, 2025) held a national seminar to mark the death anniversary of India's first Law Minister Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, where Social Justice Minister Virendra Kumar paid obeisance to the leader and also spoke of the contributions of the country's first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, whose 150th birth anniversary celebrations ended last month.

Mr. Kumar said President Droupadi Murmu, Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal had joined him and Ramdas Athawale, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, to pay floral tributes at the statue of Ambedkar on the Parliament premises.

The commission's chairperson Kishore Makwana spoke of the communications between Dr. Ambedkar and Mr. Patel, adding that the latter had defended the rights of "untouchables" in times of social unrest, an effort Dr. Ambedkar had lauded.

On Saturday morning (December 6), Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted his message on Dr. Ambedkar's death anniversary. In his post on X, Mr. Modi said, "Remembering Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on Mahaparinirvan Diwas. His visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to justice, equality and constitutionalism continue to guide our national journey. He inspired generations to uphold human dignity and strengthen democratic values. May his ideals keep lighting our path as we work towards building a Viksit Bharat."

On social media, the Social Justice Minister posted an appeal asking for the people of the country to pledge to work towards a developed India on the path shown by Dr. Ambedkar and to "uphold social harmony, spread education, and protect constitutional rights".
