Salah Would Stay: Liverpool Consider Title-Winning Manager to Replace Arne Slot
GiveMeSport
Liverpool are considering hiring Steven Gerrard as Arne Slot's interim successor and have already sounded out the former England midfielder over a potential shock return to Anfield.
The defending Premier League champions have endured a nightmare start to the season, winning just two of their last 10 top-flight games and losing ground in the title race to both Arsenal and Manchester City.
While Liverpool appear behind Slot for now, they are believed to be considering alternative scenarios behind the scenes, including parting ways with the Dutch tactician to try and salvage the season, with the club sitting just ninth in the league after 14 games.
Liverpool Eyeing Steven Gerrard
According to reports, Liverpool are now considering Gerrard's surprise return to the club on an interim basis should Slot be sacked.
Gerrard is available after leaving Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq in January. He spent 18 months in charge of the club and guided them to sixth in the league in his first season.
The 45-year-old left Al-Ettifaq by mutual consent just 17 games into his second year and was approached by Rangers over a return to Ibrox to replace Russell Martin in October.
Gerrard rejected a proposal from the Scottish club, with whom he spent more than three seasons from 2018 to 2021 and led them to the Premiership title in his final year at the club.
The former Liverpool midfielder also has experience coaching in the Premier League with Aston Villa. His tenure in the West Midlands lasted only 38 league games, out of which he won 12.
Gerrard spent almost his entire playing career at Liverpool, where he made over 700 appearances and lifted the Champions League in 2005.
Salah Facing Uncertain Liverpool Future
Gerrard's mid-season arrival could be something struggling Liverpool star Mohamed Salah would welcome following his public rant on Saturday after the 3-3 draw with Leeds.
