Nick Saban explodes over outrageous CFP snub: "It must be devastating for the team"
MARCA
Nick Saban is not happy. The legendary head coach sharply criticized the College Football Playoff (CFP) selection committee for leaving out one of the sport's most storied programs, Notre Dame, in favor of two lowerranked Group of 5 teams.
On Sunday, the NCAA announced the 12 teams selected for the CFP. Under the current rules, the five highestranked conference champions receive automatic berths.
"I think the heart of the matter is all three of those teams should have gotten in and deserved the right to play in the College Football Playoff," Saban said in recent comments.
"I think that may be something we can learn from this because, to me, this has been devastating for Notre Dame's team not to get an opportunity to play in the playoffs," Saban said.
Still, he emphasized the need for improvement: "We can learn something from this that will help us come up with a little better criteria for trying to make sure we get the 12 best teams in the playoffs."
