Indebted Alliance: INDIA Bloc on Political Life Support | Politics

The INDIA bloc, a coalition of secular and democratic parties, is under scrutiny following comments by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who suggested the alliance is 'on life support'. Abdullah's remarks have prompted several alliance members, including the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Communist Party of India (CPI), to call for an introspection on coordination and coherence within the bloc.

The opposition alliance, which had formed with the objective of challenging the ruling BJP, appears to be faltering post-2024 Lok Sabha elections. CPI general secretary D Raja stressed the necessity to understand why the bloc is not operating as expected and called for a meeting, which has not occurred since the elections. Internal disagreements and the absence of a unified agenda are cited as contributing factors to the alliance's struggles.

In response, the BJP, represented by leaders such as Shahnawaz Hussain, dismissed the INDIA bloc as ineffective, stating it had already 'passed away'. This situation underscores the friction not only within the alliance but also highlights the BJP's tactical advantage in leveraging the opposition's disarray to its benefit.
